Sports Coaching and Development
Course level: 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma
Course length: 2 years
Eligible student age: 16-18
Entry requirements: No requirements for level 1 and 2. Students studying at level 3 must have previously achieved a grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English. Learners who have not already achieved a level 4 or above will study GCSE Maths and English as part of their study programme at MSC.
Course information: This course is specifically designed to deepen your understanding of how a range of components work closely together to ensure and develop optimum sporting performance of athletes. You'll develop technical skills and knowledge through core study units, which focus on coaching skills, sport development, and the links between physical activity and wellbeing. You will carry out a high-quality work placement at an approved sports/leisure facility as part of your course. Units covered include; Physiology and Anatomy, Sports Psychology, Sports injuries, Personal and professional development and more.
How will it be assessed?
You will be assessed using a variety of methods including coursework, observations, presentations and practical activities. The course is taught within a variety of learning environments including classrooms, gym suits, sports hall and computer suits and outdoor facilities.
Progressions
On completion of a level 3 qualification you can progress onto our Level 4 and 5, HNC or HND foundation degree in Sports Coaching and Development or Sports and Exercise Science. Our level 4-5 qualifications are delivered in partnership with a renowned University who support the theory and practical delivery. Admission into university will be a viable option for you, as will UK and overseas scholarships and employment in the sports and fitness industry.
